UM Men’s Groups Share Fellowship and Breakfast

On Saturday, March 23, 2024 The United Methodist Men from five neighboring churches in the Peninsula-Delaware Conference met in fellowship for the first time. There were over 50 men in attendance from Simpson UMC, Coleman UMC, Buttonwood UMC, Mt Joy UMC and Ezion Mt Carmel UMC.  Breakfast was provided by the Foundation.

The purpose of the meeting was to get to know the best of each other through fellowship, to share best practices, and to make a commitment to support each other’s programs. Although the churches are located within a 10 mile radius of each other, it was the first time many of the men met each other.

James Turner, President of the United Methodist Men, Penn-Del Conference, led the group through the reading of the United Methodist Men’s Creed. Rev Cary James Jr. of Jones Memorial UMC in Washington, DC, who is a coach and webinar presenter with the Foundation, provided an insightful overview on the purpose of the United Methodist Men. Jack Brooks, Executive Director of the Mid-Atlantic United Methodist Foundation, provided an informative overview on legacy giving, estate planning and the Financial Leadership Academy.

Overall the breakfast was a huge success. Feedback from all the participants was extremely positive with an overwhelming request to have a followup meeting in the next 90 days.

To help the men stay connected, following the meeting, each person received a directory listing the contact information of each participant. They also received an event calendar listing each church’s United Methodist Men’s programs throughout 2024.
