Joy at Mt. Joy UMC

On December 13th, the Foundation staff held our annual retreat at Mt Joy United Methodist Church in Wilmington, DE.  We spent the morning planning for 2024, and then in the afternoon we wrapped gifts for the 33 students who attend an after-school program run by Urban Promise in the church meeting hall.

We were blessed to spend some time with the children as they arrived after school.  They extended radical hospitality and invited us to play with them.  Assistant Director, Annabel Lusardi, shared a bible story and Executive Director, Jack Brooks, talked to them about the joy of both receiving and giving gifts.  They will receive the gifts we wrapped at their Christmas party on the last day of school.

Mt. Joy pastor Rev. Provey Powell is a graduate of the Financial Leadership Academy and he is leveraging his education by exploring additional revenue streams for the church. This has led to plans for both non-profit and for-profit offshoots so that they can continue to partner with organizations like Urban Promise and increase connections in their community.

It was truly a joy to spend the day at Mt Joy and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for the church as they continue to bring the kingdom into their neighborhood.
