Change in Foundation Board Leadership

On May 8th, 2024, Tom Black presided at the quarterly Mid-Atlantic United Methodist Foundation Board of Directors meeting for the last time, after nearly 20 years of service.

Following the meeting, a celebratory dinner was held as a thank you for Tom’s unwavering leadership.  In his farewell speech, he spoke of the growth of the Foundation, from a $15-$20 million organization in the early 2000’s, through the addition of Jack Brooks as Executive Director in 2008, the merger with the Baltimore-Washington Foundation in 2010, the development of the Financial Leadership Academy and other education programs, and the growth of the staff, to the current organization with almost $130 million in assets under management.  Tom spoke of the pride he feels in the integrity of the organization and the support that the Foundation provides for the churches and conference agencies we serve, and he reflected on how his own faith journey has been strengthened through his tenure as President.  Tom ended by sharing his optimism for the organization under the leadership of incoming President, Barry Rose.

Members of the Board expressed their appreciation for Tom’s time as President, by bestowing on him the title of Emeritus President of the Board – an honorary position.  In addition, Jack Brooks presented Tom with a “check” for $20,000 that is being donated by the Foundation to the Stewardship Endowment Fund, for scholarships for Foundation education programs.

Fortunately for us all, we did not have to say farewell forever for Tom, as he is going to remain on the Investment Committee of the Board.
