Academy for Church Finance Zone I

October 7

Consisting of four sessions taken over two years, the Academy for Church Finance seeks to enhance the understanding and skills of laity for financial leadership in the local church so that laity and clergy work in partnership to grow healthy congregations.

Beginning with Session One in October 2017, all Zone I Sessions will take place at the BWC Mission Center in Fulton, MD.

Session One—A Theology of Stewardship and Personal Finance

Lesson Objectives: To be able to understand and articulate a theological and biblical understanding of effective stewardship and explore biblical and practical steps in personal finances for developing a culture of “generous living” within the local congregation.

Date: October 7, 2017

 

Session Two –Organizing for Effective Stewardship and Creating a Culture of Giving

Lesson Objectives: Develop skills for comprehensive year round stewardship in your congregation to increase giving for mission and ministry and learn best practices for creating a climate for generosity in the local church.

Date: March 17, 2018

 

Session Three— Best Practices for Church Finances and Using Vision and Mission Budgets

Lesson Objectives: Learn best practices for managing aspects of local church finances including alternative giving methods, best accounting practices, investment policies, reporting, budgeting, and the role of the finance team and learn how to align a congregation’s budget with the vision and mission

Date: October 6, 2018

 

Session Four— What We Can Learn from Community Fund Raisers and Planned Giving

Lesson Objectives:  Learn from non-church fund raisers the best practices around identifying the needs and donors, the various facets of fundraising, making the “ask” and donor life cycle, and Stewardship, thanking, and donor engagement.
